Welcome to Chautauqua

Situated at the foot of the Flatirons, the Chautauqua neighborhood is a haven for those who love Boulder’s famed Open Space, dramatic vistas, and unique history.

Popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, "Chautauquas" were adult education sites that featured speakers, teachers, musicians, and preachers. Founded in 1898, the nondenominational Colorado Chautauqua is the only venue of its kind west of the Mississippi and one of the few in continuous operation since its inception. Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2006, today Chautauqua provides a year-round calendar of events as well as the community's centerpiece Chautauqua Park.

The neighborhood of Chautauqua is a blend of homes sited on large, tree-filled lots that range from the early 1900s Victorians to customized, modern abodes. Proximity to the University of Colorado has also spurred the development of condominiums and townhouses to accommodate students and renters. Basemar Shopping Center features shops and restaurants, and locals rave about brunches on Chautauqua Dining Hall's veranda. Neighborhood schools include Flatiron Elementary, Manhattan Middle, and Boulder High School.

Rooted in the community-building spirit of Chautauqua, residents here love the close-knit, family-friendly vibe and stunning natural splendor. Embracing Boulder's outdoor lifestyle, you'll frequently find residents of all ages walking dogs, cycling, or heading to one of the "secret, locals-only" trailheads that abound nearby.
